Esterot writes everything down. These rules are short on purpose: read them once and you will never have to argue about them later. Gamemasters enforce them. If you are not sure something is allowed, ask a Gamemaster before you do it, not after.

1. One client

Esterot is played only with the Esterot client, from the Downloads page. Any other client is refused at login. Do not use programs that read or change the game's memory or traffic, and do not add modules that walk, hunt or loot for you.

Changing how the client looks (themes, layout, hotkeys) is fine. Changing what it does for you is not.

2. Bots: what is allowed

Healing and attack assistants are allowed. Cavebot / 100% AFK hunting is not: instant ban.

  • Allowed: the healing and attack assistant that comes with the Esterot client, while you are playing.
  • Not allowed: a cavebot (anything that walks a route or picks your targets across a hunt), and hunting while nobody is at the keyboard.
  • Standing still at a spawn with the assistant on and nobody at the keyboard is AFK hunting too.
  • Being away inside a protection zone is not hunting. Go make tea.

If a Gamemaster is not sure you are at the keyboard, they will speak to you first. No answer and still killing: ban. A cavebot caught walking its route gets no warning.

3. Bugs

If something works that should not, tell a Gamemaster and stop using it. Profiting from a bug (copying items, walking through walls, hitting a boss from a hole in the map) is punished, and whatever it produced is taken back. Reporting a bug is never punished.

4. Names

In Esterot, a name matters more than most things. Character and guild names must not insult, harass, be sexual or hateful, refer to drugs or crime, copy a real person, or pretend to be staff (GM, God, Gamemaster, Tutor, Admin, Staff, Esterot Team). A name that breaks this rule is changed by the staff, or the character is locked until it is.

5. Chat and conduct

Be rude to monsters and decent to people. No insults, harassment, hate speech, threats, spam, advertising other servers, or sharing anyone's personal information.

Esterot is a PvP world: killing another player is part of the game, not a rule violation, and the game itself answers unjustified kills with skulls. Insulting them afterwards is a rule violation.

6. Your account

Your account and password are yours alone. Staff will never ask for your password.

7. More than one client at a time

You may have up to two characters online at the same time, but only one of them may hunt. The other can trade, make runes or wait.

8. Real money

Characters, items, gold and services are not sold or bought for real money, or for the currency of other games. Every account involved is banned and the items are removed. The only thing sold for money is what the Esterot shop sells.

9. Punishments

First offence: a warning. Second: the account is banned for 7 days. Third: the account is banned for good. Real-money trading, cheating programs, threats and hate speech go straight to a permanent ban. Cavebot and AFK hunting: instant ban, as in rule 2, for 30 days the first time, for good the second.

Bans apply to the whole account.

To contest a punishment, write to [email protected].

These rules can change. The version on this page is the one that counts.
